Rumson Wild Hold Off The Fair Haven White Sox In A Game For The Ages

Rumson, NJ - There is a buzz around the two rivers area after the incredible back and forth matchup between two softball powerhouses as the Rumson Wild hosted the Fair Haven White Sox. Like Ali vs Frasier or the 1982 US Olympic hockey team vs Russia, it proved to be a match-up that sports fans will remember for decades.

The Wild jumped out to an early lead which they kept throughout, until Fair Haven’s offense was able to tie it up at 9-9. The Wild mounted a legendary last-inning rally starting with Jemma Florio who started things off with a key single. Next up, Emma Kuo came through with a clutch double. Greta Zanetich then got a walk, loading the bases for Riley Tamashunas.

The anticipation boiled to a fever pitch, when Riley smacked a key hit. In dramatic fashion, there was a close play at the plate...Thanks to some nifty speed and instinctual base-running, Jemma “J-Flo” Florio beat the tag at the dish to cap off an exciting 10-9 Rumson victory. The roar of the crowd could be heard far away from Piping Rock Field.

Kudos to the girls from both teams as it was exciting to see how hard both teams played. Other key notables from the game were Bella Hall playing a masterful 1st base, making the outs look easy. Cate Delaney proved to be a real spark plug with several big time hits and crossing the plate 3 times for the Wild. Hunter Parsons batted a perfect 1000 on the day and made some key plays on the field. Oona Weine looked like Johnny Bench as the team’s star catcher — calling the game, talking the pitchers through each pitch and getting some much needed outs at home plate.

It was a true team effort and a finish to game that won’t soon be forgotten. Certainly a candidate for Game Of The Year honors!
