JP Marotta Becomes The Rumson 100 Mile Club’s First Male Member

Rumson resident, longtime coach and all around good guy, JP Marotta, recently completed the 100-mile feat becoming the first male to do so in the history of Rumson's newest club. He is the sixth member, joining five other determined, driven runners to round out this prestigious club that is quickly gaining popularity.

JP has always avid running career has been a priority ever since he was a teenager (10 Years ago, we joked). He typically records five to 5.5 miles a session, preferably to get his miles in the late afternoon or early evenings. It’s a bit of an adjustment when he does races since the body feels somewhat different on evening runs vs early morning races.

His running resume is certainly worth bragging about although he is certainly modest about it. He has completed three marathons - NYC twice and the hilly and unforgiving Pittsburgh Marathon as well. He has also notched many half marathons (his favorite distance) along with a boatload of 10 K’s, 5-Milers, 5K’s and more. It’s not just running for JP as he mixes in a steady diet of cycling, soccer, basketball, swimming and more.

When asked what he loves about the sport, he eloquently noted, “Running is analogous to mediation. It’s completely cathartic and I just love to be outside.” JP takes an advantage of his business travels and likes to run when he is on the road for trips, pointing out that he “Gets to see other areas of a place that I wouldn’t normally see.”

On a personal note, JP is a busy Rumson dad. His children Nicholas and Vincent are active at RFH and they also play a big part in the Summer Playground Staff. He has always volunteered as a coach, having coached over 500 boys over his tenure in Rumson.

Although the Rumson 100 Mile Club is very prestigious, it is certainly not exclusive. The Rumson 100 Mile Club welcomes all members, you just have to earn your way in. All you need to do is enjoy our parks, track your miles (via app or on paper) and show us at the Rec Dept.
